What we collect and why

• Account email — to create and secure your account.
• Dietary & allergy profiles (for you and family members you add) — used solely to compute product verdicts. This is sensitive health-related information; we treat it accordingly. Family-member profiles are entered and controlled by the account holder.
• Scan photos — label photos you capture or upload are sent to our server and processed by our AI provider (Anthropic) to read ingredients and allergens. Photos are used only to produce your scan result.
• Scan history — products you scanned and the verdicts shown, so you can review them.
• Approximate (coarse) location — optional, only to support in-store features. Never precise location.
• Technical diagnostics — anonymous scan-pipeline events identified only by a random per-scan trace ID. No name, email, or device identity is attached. Retained up to 14 days.

Anonymous return-visit statistics

To learn whether MoguMogu is useful, the app sends at most one tiny anonymous message per day, only on days you scan something. The entire message is two dates: the date of your first scan, and today's date. For example: {"cohort_day":"2026-08-01","active_day":"2026-08-08"}. It contains no account, no name, no device identifier, no location, and nothing about what you scanned. It is sent without any login credentials, and our server does not store your IP address for these messages — only running totals per date pair are kept. After 45 days of use, the app stops sending these messages entirely. We use the counts to answer one question: do people who scan once come back and scan again?

You can turn this off at any time in Settings → "Share anonymous return-visit statistics." Turning it off takes effect immediately. There is nothing to delete afterwards, because no stored record can be connected to you or your device.

What we do NOT do

• No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking across apps or websites.
• No sale of personal data. No sharing of personal data with third parties for their own purposes.
• No rotating device identifiers or fingerprinting.

Service providers (processors)

• Anthropic — AI processing of label photos and text (ingredient reading).
• Hosting — our servers are hosted in Japan (Sakura Internet).
• Apple / Google — app distribution and standard platform services.

These providers process data only on our instructions to run the service.

Aggregated statistics (future)

We may share fully anonymous, aggregated product-level statistics (for example, how many times a product was scanned overall) with food companies or researchers. Such statistics never include your identity, profile, photos, or any information about you.

Your rights

You may request access to or deletion of your account and data at any time via info.hari07@gmail.com. We comply with Japan's APPI and honor equivalent rights (access, correction, deletion) for users elsewhere, including the EU.

Retention

Account data and scan history: until you delete your account. Diagnostics: up to 14 days. Scan photos: retained to provide your results and improve reading accuracy; deleted upon account deletion request.

Children

MoguMogu accounts are for adults. Parents may add family-member profiles (including children) under their own account; that information is provided and controlled by the parent.

Important safety note

Verdicts are informational only and may contain errors. Always check the product label yourself, especially for severe allergies.
